Hezbollah confirms death of Hassan Nasrallah’s apparent successor

by M.Daim

BEIRUT, 24 OCT – After three weeks of intense speculation, Hezbollah has officially confirmed the death of Hashem Safieddine, a prominent figure within the organization.

In a formal announcement, the group recognized Safieddine as a leading candidate to succeed previously killed leader, Hassan Nasrallah. This news followed Israel’s claim that it was responsible for Safieddine’s death, asserting he was killed in an airstrike in Beirut.

Initially, Hezbollah denied reports that an airstrike in Dahiyeh, Beirut, on 3rd October had resulted in the demise of the senior Shiite cleric. Safieddine, who was a cousin of Nasrallah and the son-in-law of the late Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani, held significant influence within the group.

Hassan Nasrallah was killed on the 23rd of September’s airstrike in Beirut. Soleimani lost his life in a U.S. drone strike on early days of 2020. – airtimes.my
